About Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies

The Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies presented covers content usually taught as International relations but goes beyond it. It includes a wide range of academic disciplines, such as political science, economics, sociology, social and cultural anthropology, social and political philosophy, law, history, geography, environmental sciences, and related areas that extend beyond national boundaries.

Why Study Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BIS)

The contemporary world faces increasing globalization and the interaction of cultures, cross- border politics and international economics. An undergraduate education in international studies should respond to the needs of the international society and provide the skills, attitudes and values required by the global citizen.

The aim of the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BIS) of Strathmore University is to bring together the knowledge needed to interact and work in the international community for the purpose of the development of the global citizen and the global society. The core courses of the program lay emphasis on the formation of the person who can actively and effectively make an impactful contribution to the development of society within an international context.

For that reason, the course seeks to provide a firm ground for the application of international studies in the arena of social, political and economic development.

The Goal of studying BIS

The Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies aims to enable the students to enter into the job market with knowledge, skills and confidence that would enable them to serve and lead in various fields ranging from cross-border entrepreneurship, to government, and from international development organizations and humanitarian organizations, to the global corporate world, based on the common good of humanity that governs the proper development of persons and society.

By developing persons and society to play a wide range of positive roles in the international arena the programme’s aim is to work towards the Mission of the University of ‘providing an all-round quality education for ethical and social development and service to the society’.

Entry Requirements

KCSE (or equivalent examination) with a minimum aggregate of C+

A Level &IGCSE 6 Bs and above or IB 24 pts 5 in English and 4 in Mathematics

Entrance Examinations

Applicants will be required to attend and pass an appropriate entrance examination which will include an aptitude test in Mathematics and English as well as a personal oral interview.

Applicants should report to the university by 8.00am on the day of the interview and should bring along the following:

3 passport-size photographs
- Original and photocopies of all relevant academic testimonials.
- Copy of National ID / Birth Certificate / Passport
- Student entrance examination fee of Ksh. 2,000
